Concord, California-based builder Swinerton has tapped Tim Kretzschmar as its new executive vice president and chief operating officer of its subsidiary companies, which include Timberlab, Swinerton Energy, Lindgren Development and National Building Specialties, according to a June 11 news release from the firm.

Kretzschmar has more than 30 years of construction experience and has been with Swinerton since June 2014 as an operations manager, according to the release. Before that, he was senior vice president of Sparks, Nevada-based Q&D Construction’s building division, according to his LinkedIn. Most recently, he was the manager of Swinerton’s central region, which includes Denver, Dallas and Austin, Texas.

“Tim will support the entire Swinerton Family of Companies in our efforts to diversify our product line and exercise greater control over every aspect of project delivery—including the supply chain—to withstand market fluctuations and maximize value on each of our projects,” said David Callis, Swinerton’s CEO, in the release.

The promotion occurs at a time when Timberlab, the contractor’s mass timber arm, has been growing. In May, the company reached an agreement to acquire the assets of American Laminators, which makes glue-laminated timber, or glulam, an integral part of mass timber.

Kretzschmar’s promotion also comes less than a year after a major shake-up at Swinerton following the retirement of Eric Foster, the company’s former CEO, after 42 years at the helm. Current CEO Callis took over for Foster, effective in January, leaving a position that current COO Ray Haj filled that same month.
