Award: Terminal Connectors at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport
Value: $228.6 million
Location: Broward County, Florida
Client: Broward County Board of County Commissioners

Los Angeles-based Tutor Perini will embark on a $228.6 million contract for the Terminal Connectors Project at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida, the firm announced in a news release.

The contractor will build enclosed, post-security walkways between Terminals 1 and 2, as well as a connector between Terminals 2 and 3, the firm said. The scope of work for the job includes modifications to the existing terminals, enhanced security checkpoints, an upgraded baggage hall, an expanded passenger gate-area hold room and more retail concessions.

The project will be funded, in part, by a $50 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration via the competitive Airport Terminal Program that’s included in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, according to a news release from the Broward County Aviation Department. The grant was the largest of 114 airport allocations announced by the FAA in February and key project funding partners also included the airport’s signatory airlines and the Florida DOT.

When the grant was announced, the BCAD estimated the cost of the project at $260 million, about $30 million more than Tutor Perini’s announced contract amount. It’s not the only Florida airport work the firm has won recently that has come in under initial estimates.

For example, Tutor Perini announced that its Roy Anderson subsidiary won a $72.7 million airport hangar job in Pensacola, Florida in April, an amount that was about $10 million below the original cost estimates.

Once finished, all terminals in the airport, which served 35 million passengers last year, will be connected post-security, enabling passengers to move freely throughout the secured areas without exiting and re-entering a security checkpoint, according to the BCAD.

Tutor Perini said work will begin in the second quarter of this year, with completion slated for the third quarter of 2027.
